(URBANDALE, Iowa) – The Board of Regents would like to thank the Iowa General Assembly for approving a budget that will allow the Board to freeze resident undergraduate tuition in 2013- 2014 for the first time in 30 years.

I respect the Iowa Senate’s decision in its vote today on my reconfirmation to the Board of Regents. While I am disappointed in the results, I thank the Senate for its stewardship role for Iowans and for the very productive conversations we have had in recent weeks. It is clear that we all share a passion for higher education and doing what is best for Iowa. 

Dear Senator Quirmbach and Honorable Members of the Senate: I am writing to thank you for the opportunity to appear before the Senate Education Committee on Monday, March 18, in preparation for the Senate’s consideration of my reappointment to the Board of Regents. 

At its meeting today at Iowa State University, the Board of Regents approved the membership of its Transparency Task Force.

Hannah Walsh, the student member of the Board of Regents, is leading this group of students who will discuss higher education with members of the Iowa legislature. 

At its meeting on February 6, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa approved the composition of the Regents Transparency Task Force. Among the members of the committee will be one representative of the public.

The Board of Regents today announced the selection of Dr. William Ruud as the 10th President of the University of Northern Iowa.  Dr. Ruud currently serves as President of the Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.   

Dr. William Ruud has formally accepted a letter of employment as President of the University of Northern Iowa.

The Board of Regents would like to commend Governor Terry Branstad for his Condition of the State Speech today and thank him for his continued support of Iowa’s public universities.  

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, will meet on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at the Board of Regents office, 11260 Aurora Avenue, Urbandale, Iowa, to conduct personnel evaluations originally scheduled for the Board’s February 2013 meeting.
