What is the Board's tuition policy?

Consistent with Iowa law (Iowa Code §262.9.23) and the Board’s strategic plan, determining and fulfilling appropriate resource needs are essential in providing high-quality public education cutting-edge research, an needed public services. Predictability, transparency and long-term planning strategies are woven throughout the plan.

Regent universities need adequate support from all sources, while promoting the effective use of resources to meet institutional missions and maintain the quality of education Iowans expect. In recent years, the Board has collectively examined the two main resource components available - tuition and state appropriations - as well as the reallocations/efficiencies necessary to strengthen Iowa's public universities. The Board typically sets tuition rates in the spring or early summer for the upcoming academic year, after the state budget is set and the appropriations level is determined.
