3.22 Degree Revocation Policy

Each of the universities reserves the right to revoke a degree or certificate conferred to a Recipient if, following an investigation conducted in accordance with institutional policies and procedure, it concludes that there is clear and convincing evidence that the Recipient did not, in fact, meet all the conditions for conferral of the degree or certificate. In such circumstances, the university president may approve revocation of the degree or certificate. The university also reserves the right to withhold a degree or certificate otherwise earned but not yet conferred to correct an administrative error or as it awaits the outcome of an investigation conducted pursuant to institutional policies and procedures or as an appropriately supported disciplinary action based on the outcome of such an investigation.

Honorary degrees previously conferred by a university may be revoked with approval of the university president. The standards and procedures for revoking an honorary degree shall be set by the university.

As final institutional actions, any university revocation of a conferred degree or certificate or withholding of otherwise earned degrees or certificates as a disciplinary sanction may be appealed to the Iowa Board of Regents pursuant to its policies and processes.
