Iowa Board of Regents

Presidential Search Professional Development

Roderick McDavisIn preparation for its forthcoming Iowa State University presidential search process, the Board of Regents will receive training on best practices during the opening hours of its June 10-12 meeting. This presentation and discussion will be led by Dr. Roderick McDavis, Managing Principal of AGB Search.

McDavis is the former President of Ohio University and has decades of experience in higher education and in running searches for higher education leaders. His training will cover factors influencing presidential searches, including costs, transparency and timeline expectations. Additionally, McDavis will speak on best practices, including setting clear expectations and the importance of confidentiality when bringing candidates through the process.

The training also will cover more general aspects of running a presidential search, such as the roles and responsibilities of each group of stakeholders; from the Board, to the university, to the community at-large. Given this search will be the first-ever for most of the Board, hearing from experts and receiving training will aid the Regents in finding the next leader of ISU.

McDavis will present to the Board at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10. His presentation will be livestreamed on the Board’s YouTube channel.
