REAPS Update

During the Board’s Investment and Finance Committee meeting in February, Regent Tjaden will provide an update on the initial progress of the Revenue Enhancement and Productivity Study (REAPS).

The REAPS initiative, created last December, is a comprehensive review of revenue streams and cost efficiencies across the Regents Enterprise. Though Iowa’s public universities have ongoing revenue enhancement and cost-saving measures in place, REAPS was commissioned to enhance those efforts and work toward even greater efficiency gains.

Iowa’s public universities continue to operate with efficiency, ranking among the most cost effective four year public institutions in the nation. According to recent data, Iowa’s public universities maintain the fourth lowest administrative expenses relative to instructional costs nationwide.

Chair Tjaden, who will lead the initiative, described REAPS as “a strategic opportunity to jointly engage the Board, Board Office, Regent institutions and third-party experts to challenge and expand our thinking.” Tjaden’s update at the February meeting will be an early step toward greater efficiency at Iowa’s public universities.
