The Board of Regents met April 23-24, 2025 at the Iowa State University Alumni Center in Ames. Selected items discussed are outlined below. View the full agenda here.

Farewell Regent Lindenmayer  VIDEO
This was the final meeting for Regent Jim Lindenmayer, who is retiring from the Board at the end of the month. He was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Kim Reynolds on June 29, 2018 to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Subhash Sahai.  He was reappointed to the Board on March 1, 2019. He served as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee.

President Sherry Bates and the Board thanked Regent Lindenmayer for his years of service in a resolution read in his honor. 

2025-26 Tuition and Fees  VIDEO
The Board heard a first reading of 2025-26 Tuition and Fee rates. The proposed rates increase resident undergraduate tuition by three percent at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University and 2.7 percent at the University of Northern Iowa. The universities also propose varying tuition rates for non-resident, graduate and professional students as well as differential rates for certain higher cost programs. 

No action was taken. The Board is scheduled to vote on rates at the June meeting in Iowa City.

Iowa Workforce Alignment  VIDEO
Last February, Board of Regents President Sherry Bates directed the Board office and the universities to review academic programs and determine how they fit with Iowa’s workforce needs. Representatives from the Board Office presented an update on this review.

Academic Affairs Committee  VIDEO
The Academic Affairs Committee approved numerous program terminations at the University of Iowa and new programs at Iowa State. The committee also approved the Center for Cyclone Civics, a new center at Iowa State dedicated to promoting civic literacy, developing civic skills and creating a civic disposition. Additionally, the committee approved UNI’s plan to restructure its College of Education.

Faculty Presentation  VIDEO
Nigel Reuel, associate professor, Stanley Chair in Interdisciplinary Engineering and Associate Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, presented Translating Research to Make Industrial Impact to the Board. 

Governance, Evaluation and Human Resources Committee  VIDEO
The Governance, Evaluation and HR Committee approved personnel appointments and collective bargaining agreements. In addition, the committee approved policy manual revisions for Academic Affairs, Business and Finance and Property and Facilities. 

Property and Facilities Committee  VIDEO
The Property and Facilities Committee approved the capital registers for all three universities, which included the Iowa Memorial Union modernization project at UI, the Large Animal Hospital expansion project at Iowa State, and phase 2.2 of the UNI-Dome modernization project at UNI, among others. 

Free Speech and Student Affairs Committee  VIDEO
The Free Speech and Student Affairs committee heard a presentation on disability support services on the campuses of Iowa’s public universities. 

Audit and Compliance Committee VIDEO
Chief Audit Executive Chad Sharp and Deputy Auditor of State Brian Brustkern presented internal and state audits to the Committee. 

UI Health Care Committee  VIDEO
The committee received the UIHC presentation from VP for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Carver College of Medicine Denise Jamieson, Associate VP of UI Health Care and UIHC CEO Bradley Haws, and Associate VP for Finance and UIHC CFO Mark Henrichs
