April 14, 2021 Meeting Recap
The Board of Regents held a virtual meeting April 14, 2021. Key items reviewed by committees and the Board are outlined below. Click here for the complete agenda.
Personnel Appointments
The Board approved appointments of John Keller as interim president, Sara Sanders as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Galen Schneider as interim dean of the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa.
Board President Report
President Richards noted his support for the COVID-19 vaccine, but stated that the vaccine will not be required at Iowa’s public universities.
“We believe in vaccinations...” Richards said, “But they will not be required at our three universities.”
Bond Sales
The Board approved the sale of revenue refunding bonds for athletics revenue, facilities corporation revenue and telecommunications facilities revenue at the University of Iowa.
Residence System Rates
The Board approved AY 2021-2022 room and board rate proposals. Double room and meal plan rates increased 2.69 percent at the University of Iowa, decreased 1.14 percent at Iowa State University and remained flat at the University of Northern Iowa.
Audit and Compliance Committee
Board Chief Audit Executive Deb Johnston presented internal audits.
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Committee
The committee received the UIHC presentation from VP for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Carver College of Medicine Brooks Jackson, Associate VP of UI Health Care and UIHC CEO Suresh Gunasekaran, and Associate VP for Finance and UIHC CFO Bradley Haws. In addition, Alejandro Comellas, director of the ICTS Clinical Research Unit, presented on the UIHC respiratory illness follow-up clinic, established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other Committees
The Academic Affairs, Campus and Student Affairs and Property and Facilities Committees met April 7.
