Rachael Johnson is a third generation Iowan from Sioux City with a passion for serving her state. She was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Terry Branstad on May 1, 2015. Rachael graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Middle Level Education in May 2018.
In April 2017, Rachael was honored with the Truman Scholarship - one of the nation's most prestigious scholarships - awarded annually by the Harry S. Truman Foundation in support of its mission to select and support the next generation of public service leaders. Through serving on the Board, she has come to appreciate higher education and the many multi-faceted issues affecting institutions of higher education across the nation. In addition to serving on the Board, Rachael serves as a commissioner for the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service and the Iowa College Student Aid Commission.
In the coming year, Rachael will participate in the Truman Albright Fellows program and work for the Truman Scholarship Foundation as its Resident Scholar. After, she plans to attend graduate school for Master’s Degrees in Public Administration and Higher Education Administration. In addition to her passion for education, Rachael enjoys spending time with her family, shopping for bargains, and binge watching political dramas.
