Nancy Dunkel

Former state legislator Nancy Dunkel spent a long and distinguished career in banking before retiring. She served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2013-2016.

Dunkel has received numerous professional accolades, including receiving the James A. Leach Leadership Award from the Iowa Bankers Association in 2014. That honor recognizes a distinguished Iowa banker who has made significant, lifelong contributions to how Iowa banks serve Iowa communities. Additionally, Dunkel was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011.

Dunkel currently serves as a board member of Principal Bank, the Greater Dubuque Community Foundation, the Delaware County Farm Bureau, the Dyersville Area Community Foundation, and the Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation. She also serves as a trustee and Associate of the Sisters of Saint Francis. In the past, she has served as chair of the Iowa Bankers Association, and on the boards of Financial Women International, the Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, Stonehill Franciscan Services, and Operation New View. At the state level, she has served on the boards of Iowa Division of Banking, Iowa Department of Economic Development, the state’s Targeted Small Business Program, Brownfield-Grayfield Board, and Iowa’s Main Street Program. 

Dunkel is a graduate of Loras College. She and her husband, Ken, reside in Dyersville, and have one daughter and son-in-law and two grandchildren. 

Regent Dunkel was appointed to the Board on March 1, 2017 by Governor Branstad, with her term beginning May 1. She was reappointed on March 3, 2023 by Governor Reynolds.

Her term expires April 30, 2029.
