Damien Holste was the middle school winner of Gallaudet University’s national American Sign Language poetry competition. Holste will receive $100 and a certificate for his poem about a rooster trying to attract a hen.

Two Iowa State University faculty have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors. Pat Halbur, professor and chair of veterinary diagnostic and production animal medicine, and Surya Mallapragada, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor and the Carol Vohs Johnson Chair in Chemical and Biological Engineering, received appointments to the academy, a nonprofit organization that recognizes inventors with U.S. patents.

First Computer Science and Engineering Degree Awarded at U of I

Last weekend, Caitlin Danielson became the first University of Iowa student to graduate with majors in computer science and engineering within the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. The new degree program was approved by the Board of Regents on June 9.
