Economic Impact Study for FY 2022
According to an economic impact study from Lightcast, a labor market analytics firm, UI, ISU and UNI combined to add $14.9 billion in income to the state of Iowa economy during fiscal year 2021-2022. That figure of $14.9 billion is equal to approximately 7.1 % of the total gross state product of the state. The study also notes that the total of university activity supports nearly 200,000 jobs in the state, which is one out of 10 jobs in Iowa.

Graduation and Retention Report  VIDEO
Associate Chief Academic Officer Jason Pontius presented the Fall 2022 Graduation and Retention Report. The report notes that overall retention rates are down one percentage point, but four-year graduation rates are up two percentage points. 

Academic Affairs Committee  VIDEO
The committee approved requests for two center terminations and a new BS in biomedical engineering at ISU. Four honorary degrees, two each at ISU and UI, were approved. University of Iowa Recipients will include artist Oliver Lee Jackson and Shirley Schermer, founder of the UI Office of the State Archaeologist Burials Program. ISU honorees include Temple Grandin, distinguished professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University, and the first woman archivist of the United States Trudy Huskamp Peterson.

In addition, the annual distance education report was approved, highlighting the growth of distance and online education at Iowa’s public universities.

Campus and Student Affairs Committee  VIDEO
The committee received the annual student financial aid report, which highlighted the effects that student financial aid, most notably institutional aid, have on the net costs of attendance at Iowa’s public universities.

Property and Facilities Committee  VIDEO
The Board approved the UI housing master plan, plans to purchase property to expand parking at UIHC, and two UIHC projects, including window replacement at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The committee also approved Iowa State’s Scheman Building renovation and UNI’s Innovative Teaching and Technology Center for Nursing project.

Investment and Finance Committee  VIDEO
The Board received the quarterly investment report from Marquette and Associates and approved modification of financial institutions, brokerage firms and money market mutual funds.  

Audit and Compliance Committee  VIDEO
Board Chief Audit Executive Deb Johnston presented internal audits and the UIHC audit reports.

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Committee  VIDEO
The committee received the UIHC presentation from VP for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Carver College of Medicine Brooks Jackson, Interim Associate VP of UI Health Care and UIHC CEO Kim Hunter, and Interim Associate VP for Finance and UIHC CFO Mark Henrichs

Three individuals provided public comment to the Board, including:

Personnel Appointments
Shawn Norman was appointed senior vice president for operations and finance, and Jason Henderson was appointed vice president for extension and outreach, both at ISU. Stephanie Huffmann was appointed associate vice president for strategic initiatives and dean of the graduate college at UNI. Kathryn Ring was named regional director for Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired.   

University Peer Group Updates  VIDEO
The Board approved updated lists of peer institutions for Iowa, Iowa State and UNI. These lists were last updated in 2014 for UNI and 2016 for Iowa State.
