Rachael Johnson, a former North High School student from Sioux City, Iowa was appointed to the Board of Regents on May 1, 2015. Rachael, a junior at the University of Northern Iowa, is pursuing a degree in Elementary and Middle Level Education. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she hopes to further her education and passion for higher education through graduate school. She is a 3rd generation Iowan and the middle of three children.
In April 2017, Rachael was honored with the Truman Scholarship - one of the nation's most prestigious scholarships - awarded annually by the Harry S. Truman Foundation in support of its mission to select and support the next generation of public service leaders. Rachael also served as part of the Northern Iowa Student Government (NISG), which represents more than 12,000 UNI students. As a Senator for the College of Education, she represented and advocated for students. Rachael also represented the UNI College of Education as a student ambassador. In addition, she serves as a Commissioner for the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, and was Vice President of the Iowa Association of Student Councils from 2011-14..
Outside of UNI, Rachael enjoys working as a teacher at The Arc of Woodbury County, which helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, during the summer months.
Rachael was appointed to the Board of Regents on March 2, 2015, by Governor Branstad. Her term on the Board expires April 30, 2021.
