Board of Regents Announces First Finalist for UNI Presidency

Today the Board of Regents, State of Iowa announced the first finalist in the search for the next president of the University of Northern Iowa.

Neil Theobald, Ph.D., former president at Temple University, will visit campus on Tuesday, November 29 to meet with faculty, staff, students and members of the community. Theobald’s curriculum vitae and his full interview schedule are available on the UNI Presidential Search Website (uni.edu/presidential-search).

Theobald also will participate in a public forum: 

  • Tuesday, November 29, 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Old Central Ballroom of Maucker Union (if questions conclude prior to 3:45 p.m. the forum will end).

Live video streaming of the public forum and a recording upon its conclusion will be available on the UNI Presidential Search Website. A mult box also will be available at the public forum for reporters covering the event.

Theobald is one of three finalists participating in a final round of interviews at UNI.  A fourth candidate was invited to be a finalist but withdrew. Following the campus visits, the Board of Regents will convene a meeting on December 6 to interview the candidates and select a new president.

The Board of Regents is a group of nine citizen volunteers who govern the state’s three public universities and two special K-12 schools – the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School – through policymaking, coordination and oversight.
